Hugh Stollmeyer

Born: 1930
Died: 1982

Hugh Stollmeyer grew up in Trinidad during an early period when art works were in the possession of the very wealthy who could have afforded to import them, especially from the European countries.

He studied art at the Art Student's League in New York, U.S.A. where he obtained a grounding in the technical aspects of art, and having remained there for many years he was exposed to various trends and influences of art works

In 1931 a few of the artists trained abroad formed themselves into a small group called "The Society of Trinidad Independents". Stollmeyer belonged to this group which held exhibitions.

In April of 1960 Stollmeyer held his one-man show from which the National Museum acquired works.
Hugh Stollmeyer moved to the U.S.A. where he died.
