This spectacular Hindu festival transcends religion, heritage and ethnicity in Trinidad and Tobago. It was brought here by the Indentured Labourers in 1845 and was marked as a national holiday in 1966 with numerous functions in homes and communities. Divali, also known as The Festival of Lights, symbolises the celebration of light over darkness, good over evil, also wealth and prosperity. The Divali Nagar, the Village of The Festival of Lights, attracts thousands of people every year bringing about positive feelings of unity, harmony and festivity.
