Hyacinth Guppy-Hickson

I was born in Trinidad on 17th August, 1956.  I lived in Canada for 9 years teaching myself to refine my drawing skills.  I returned to live in Trinidad in 1983. In 1990 I moved to Barbados with my family to live.

I formally began painting in 1994 while living in Barbados.  I had never painted before but always had a desire to learn.  I was introduced to oil painting by Indrani Whittingham and fell in love with it.  I returned to Trinidad to live in 1995 and painted for a year on my own.  In the meantime I refined my profession as a remedial teacher of Dyslexics and slow learners.

In 2008, I discovered Marsha Bhagwansingh and was reintroduced to painting once again.  I still paint in and love oil as a medium but I also paint in acrylic.  I paint still life but am more attracted to landscapes and real life subjects.  Painting is a relaxing hobby for me which I balance with my profession and family life.
