The Visual Arts Unit of the Department of Creative and Festival is pleased to invite the public to the Final Year Degree Show, which opens on Sunday May 3rd 2015 at 3p.m. This group is comprised of 31 students who have specialized in several areas of Fine Art and Design. The range of works includes areas of fine arts such as paintings, drawings, sculpture, ceramics, as well as areas of design such as packaging, illustrated graphic novels, fashion accessories and educational tools among other exciting projects.
The graduating Art and Design students also worked with students of the Guayaguayare R.C. School and the Bridge Foundation on several projects to promote literacy among the children of that school. The public can view and give feedback on illustrated children’s storybooks that were co-written with the schoolchildren and designed by graduating students of the Visual Arts degree on display at Nalis during the Bocas Lit Fest from April 29th – May 2nd, and these books will also be part of the Final Year Exhibition that opens on May 3rd.
Schools are welcome at the exhibition, and art teachers wishing to bring their students are invited to contact the DCFA to schedule their appointments on Monday 4th May and Friday 8th May in particular, as these will be the best days to receive school visits.
This is the first of several events that will take place at the Visual Arts Unit in May, with the other events including the Certificate Exhibition which opens on May 17th and a Design Colloquium entitled ‘Ministry of Design – from cottage industry – to state enterprise’ which takes place on May 28th and 29th.
For more details on these and other events please contact Roberta Quarless at the Department of Creative and Festival Arts:roberta.quarless(at)sta.uwi.edu or 645-0873.
