10.7.07 The Beginning

Background:
A few months ago, artists Karen De Verteuil and Peter Sheppard met with A.S.T.T. President Courtenay Williams to talk about some ideas they shared.

Several ASTT members had, over time, expressed interest in adding events to the Art Society's calendar in the hope to generate some activities on a regular basis.
It was decided that we would first start with adding COFFEE MORNINGS on the first Saturday of every month with a different activity.

The first 'Coffee Morning" was scheduled at very short notice just to get it off the ground and was only promoted through word-of-mouth.

On a sunny Saturday morning on the 7th July 2007 the first session started. From 10:30am an intimate group met to discuss ideas about making the Art Society more viable and to bring members together in a social way on a regular basis which should be fun-spirited and casual.

Those who attended were Courtenay Willaims (President ASTT), Jim Armstrong- Vice-President ASTT and member artists: Peter Sheppard, Mary Adam, Karen De Verteuil, Mary Lange and a new member Sandra Solis.

During the session several activities were planned and we look forward to member support in all of these exciting upcoming activities, including our first field trip to Bamboo Cathedral/Cazabon Trail- Macqueripe on Saturday 28th July from 9am.

Also planned are Studio Sessions at the ASTT with live models for studying the human form, painting Plein Air to locations such as Early Bird Savannah, Mt. St. Benedict, Wild Fowl Trust and a day trip to Tobago. Members are encouraged to suggest ideas for new and exciting activities and most importantly to participate in these activities. They are not only geared toward member artists, but hobbyist, photographers, writers and poets are more than welcome. We have a great opportunity to make this a lively and exciting art community.

JUNE:      Saturday 14th  10am-3pm WILD FOWL TRUST, Point-A-Pierre.

The Wild Fowl Trust is a tranquil refuge for many species of birds. There
are many opportunities for painting,
lilies ,  flowers , birds, ponds and landscape in general. Bring you materials including  two water bottles including one  to take  away your dirty painting water. It will be hot so plan for a hat,

This is a nature resort so keep that in mind with the use  of your art materials and waste water. There will be in-house guests and their privacy and space should be  respected. This will be the last trip of the summer programme of Plein Air
Sessions and we invite our Tobago based member

artists to join their Trinidadian colleagues in this exercise. As you
can appreciate this particular trip will entail some

strategic planning and advance commitment is required. The days
schedules are suggested and are subject to

change based on the final arrangements. A minimum of 8 people would be
needed to ensure this trip will happen.

The more the merrier.  Advance commitment will be needed no later than

* At the start of the 2008-2009 new school term in September, I
propose that we visit schools and paint there in lieu of our weekend
plein air sessions to encourage students to work with artists and to
allow them a link to the happenings of the ASTT in preparation for the
November show.

*THIS ENTIRE SCHEDULE IS SUBJECT TO CHANGE as sometimes venues may
have other commitments on the days listed.
