Kathy Ann Chevalier
Kathy Ann Chevalier Joseph was born into a family of artists and designers on the 11th December 1972, in Port of Spain, Trinidad. From childhood her childish games displayed her artistic flair from creating paper dolls to crafting people from the clay in the backyard. She seemed to have an innate ability to express herself through art. She began art and craft education in secondary school, and was trained by the renowned Trinidadian artist, Ian Ali, she received a Diploma in Honours for outstanding performance in art at graduation and a grade A for art in CXC. From there she furthered her tertiary education in arts and communication and received a Diploma in Art. Since then she has been improving her skills by networking with other art professionals, by researching and studying the painting styles of old masters and even up-and-coming artists and practicing her own skills.
Although her field is in Business Administration, she has been painting for over 20 years because art is her passion; she sees art as an expression of her mind, interpretation of her soul and the manifestation of her feelings; it is how she sees the world around her. Her constant goal is to meticulously transmit the beauty of all aspects of nature with a great sensibility and authenticity. She works toward representing the best she can, the expression of the subject to immediately attract the viewer's attention and emotion. Her paintings capture the beauty of Trinidad and Tobago as she interprets it. Her love for nature, particularly the beach is expressed on paper with acrylic, watercolour, pastels and coloured pencil. Her hope is that her paintings prompt a sense of joy and tranquility in the people who experience them. She has done a number of commissions from portraits to sceneries. She sold her first painting for US$250.00.
She hosted her first art exhibition in 2011 ‘In Full Colour’, which featured art pieces that are depictions of locations visited in both Trinidad & Tobago and abstract paintings that are the expression of her feelings and emotion.
You can see more of her paintings at ‘In full Colour by Kathy’ on facebook.
