17 - 19 January 2009
photos and report by Peter Sheppard
Heidi Berger hosted Canadian Artist ARIEL LYONS to a workshop at Lancaster Great House in Barbados from 17-19JAN 2009. This is the second year Trinidadian artists Peter Sheppard and Beverley Fitzwilliam Harries attended workshops at Lancaster.
About 24 artists participated some from Canada, England, Guyana and two from Trinidad. The others were from Barbados.
The workshop was intended to be a En Plein Air workshop, painting on location in the beautiful gardens or around the ruins of the once Sugar Plantation. The landscape afforded many possibilities for outdoor painting. Also Ariel demonstrated many different mediums and showed how the alter the surface of the canvas or acrylic paint.
Each Day the session would start with a demonstration, then the artists would paint until a delicious healthy lunch is served. In the afternoon another demonstration and by the end of the day a walk-around and critique was done.
Artists had to opportunity to network with other artists from various disciplines and were encouraged to work outside of their comfort zone.
Lancaster has on going art programmes throughout the year.
All other workshops are available through various searches online to suit the independent needs of each artist.
